It seem like I haven't blogged in forever. It's not that I didnt want to or didn't have anything to say but for some reason blogger wouldn't post anything I wrote. I tried three times early last week but nothing ever showed up on my blog. Then I was too busy later in the week to blog because I was studying like mad for my midterms friday and saturday. How dare they make us write a two hour midterm on a Saturday morning. Have they no mercy?
Anyway, Today I went grocery pickin'. I went all out, even bought some name-brand stuff. I have decicded that I really need to make meals a priority. Between being really busy and living off a student loan I don't eat as much as I should. I always eat but usually not good food, and I almost never have a real meal. I grab a little of this or that between classes or when I take a break from studying. When I get home from school I am usually to tired to make anything substantial. Visiting my aunts' once a semester is not enough to keep the meat on my bones. I need to take better care of myself, after all I am not my own belong to God. So today I splurged and bought all sorts of things. Vanessa, you can tell your mom that I bought some fruits and veggies, lot's of them, well at least I think it is a lot. I bought, Teddy Grahams, Goldfish, trail mix, and other yummies for my school lunches. I even bought 2% milk, I usually drink skim, but I need some extra calories to get back to a healthy weight. And I have decided that I can have no more than one chocolate bar a week, excluding the smarties I put in my peanut butter sandwiches.
On a completely different note, is it really that strange that I don't have cable? Please tell me. I have gotten a few calls from Sasktel, offering me their special version of cable at a super low price. They always start by asking me who my current cable provider is. When I tell them I don't have cable they can't believe it. This last guy that called was really funny. At first he was silent.
"No cable at all? Not from shaw, or satelite or anything?" He seemed unable to grasp the concept of someone living without tv.
"You really don't have cable? Not even a basic package?"
Talking to customers like their are from another planet is not the way to get them to buy your product. It didn't really bother me, but it kinda sad to think that someone is so consumed with television that they can't grasp the idea of living without it. There is a lot of stuff that you can do besides watch tv, and they are usually more fun, and always more productive.

MAYBE ITS TIME TO GROW UP
This morning at church I met the someone new. Well not really, I met him once before a couple of months ago, he had just forgotten who I was. The intro went like they alway do, who are you are you new here, blah blah blah. Then he noticed my Finding Nemo purse.
"Oh, so you have kids."
"Nope, that's mine. It's my favourite movie."
"Uh, sorry. I just saw that, and well...uh... That's the kind of things my kids are drawn to..."
He got really awkward and embarassed. It didn't bother me in the least. I felt bad that he felt bad though so I tried to steer the conversation to something else.
When I was 15 having such a purse just made me look immature. Now that I am old enough to have kids (not that I want them) perhaps I should stop shopping for accessories in the children's section at Walmart.
I think I should also stop watching Disney movie's because a lot of them make me cry. I just saw Bambi II on tv, it was a good show, but I cried twice. I'm such a wuss!

SHOPPING: BARGAINS AND BLUNDERS
Since I had this week off I thought it would be a good time to do some shopping. I have been needing a few things for a while but kept it putting off, mostly because I haven't had time, but also because I hate shopping. Yesterday I went shopping with my aunt, and it went pretty well. I needed to get winter boots but seemed to get everything but. I bought three pairs of socks, pajamas and a skirt, all for about 20 bucks. I was especially impressed with the skirt purchase, it was regular price $50, would you believe I got it for $2! That's 96% off!
This had been my second attempt at finding boots. I have been debating whether or not I should blog about my first attempt. For one thing I am embarassed about the difficulty I have finding footwear in my size. I have decided in favour of blogging, but only because I have a few friends who have been feeling down and I thought this story would cheer them up. I warn you the story you are about to read may be disturbing to some viewers. Not all audiences share the same sense of humor.
So I was looking for boots, but I didn't want those big bulky Sorel type boots. I wanted something a little more formal but not to dressy. I like the boots with zippers up the side, since I am usually running late in the morning I don't have time for laces. Well once I finally found some that were in my side I was really excited so I started to put them on. Now it's been a while since I have shaved my legs, with good reason I assure you, and I was only wearing ankle socks. It was very difficult to hide that fact while trying on the boots. Judging from the look on the girls face I did not do a very good job of keeping my legs covered. And I was at transit, and the people who work in stores like that are not the kind to take physical appearance lightly, I think she may have had nightmares that night. I should have taken more care in zipping the boots up because if I had I may not have gotten my leg hair caught in the zipper. I imagine that is what an epilatior feels like. Well there you have it, my shameful shopping experience. Please that I will be shaving my legs soon so that I can wear my new skirt.

SYC SYNDROME
So I think I may have SYC syndrome. That is, Simpson Y-Chromosome syndrome. I think this may be a real problem, not just in the cartoons. Even though I don't have a Y-chromosome (this is the gene that makes you a male), this is the only thing I can think of to explain what feels like a significant drop of intelligence over the last little while.
(For those of you who don't watch the Simpsons, there is an episode that reveals that having the Simpson Y-chromosome pre-destines you to be become dumber as you grow up)
For example, this weekend I went to visit my Bible College friends. We were supposed to stay at Sarah's trailer. She wasn't going to be home until later so we were to let ourselves in. When we got there we couldn't get into the door. It was unlocked, we just couldn't push it all the way open. We tried but just before it was totally open we heard a big crack. We didn't want to force it incase we wrecked something. So I suggested that they probably had a chain on the door, and the sound we heard might be it rippping of the wall. You know, like the ones in the hotel. It seemed like a valid explaination to me. It wasn't until a few hours later, while watching a movie at another friends house, that I realized how stupid I had been. They couldn't have a chain on the door because you can only lock the chain from the inside. She couldn't have locked it that way as she left the house.
So I really wasn't firing on all cylinders that day. What's worse is that my friend Annemarie knew it was stupid and didn't even tell me. Thanks alot Annie! I just hope that I don't find myself one day standing in a big circle with my friends and relatives taking turns putting pots on our heads and head butting each other.
Other than that it was a really good weekend. I watched CARS twice. I love that movie, especially Mater.
I also saw a friend of mine who I used to have lunch with all the time when I was there. He is the nicest old man. He lost his wife several years ago, and then got remarried and moved away last year. I heard from someone that it was not a good thing and that he had moved back. He told me a bit about how the marriage fell apart. Talking to him again was nice because he really had a big impact on me the two years I was there. It was also really hard because he seemed really sad. He wasn't his cheerful self, he seemed burdened, almost defeated. I didn't know what to do. Except pray for him. Please if you think of it pray for him too.
This morning I had to go to the dentist. I hate the dentist. The hygienists are all smiles and talking nice to you while they stab you with sharp pointy objects. Then the dentist talks to me like I am a three year old. Then to further the torture they let you pick from all different flavours of toothpolish. Mint, bubble gum, cookie dough, banana split, etc. Next the fluoride, also in all kinds of yummy flavours. Then after you have sat there with the tasty flouride teasing you for a minute they tell you you can't eat anything. But now I want a banana split!
Oh well, 8am is not really the time of day to crack open a bucket of ice cream.

PRAISE THE LORD!
Yesterday didn't start of so good. I was super tired because I have been up until 2am every night this week studying and doing homework. I got my mark back from Prokaryotic Genetics and it wasn't as good as I was hoping. Then I skipped chemistry so that I could study. If I would have stayed in class I wouldn't have put my mug in my bag with the lid on crooked. My tea would not have spilled all over my notes, textbook and lab report. And my assignment would not have gotten wrecked. Grrrr!
However, I prayed that my chem lab would work because I haven't had a chem lab work once for me this semester, and it did! Yay! I didn't have to redo anything. It went off completely without a hitch. And I got out early by a whole half hour! So despite having a less than marvelous morning my afternoon was fantastic.
Unfortunately my day was somewhat analogous to the law of gravity. That is to say "What goes up must come down." My morning was sucky, my afternoon was great, then the evening took a bit of a dive. I had to go to the grocery store to get some milk for breakfast. As I was walking towards the door I totally biffed it! There was no chance for recovery. This winter I have been working on not screaming when I wipe out in an effort to draw less attention. The good news, I didn't even make a peep! The bad news, the sound of the crashing grocery cart in the parking lot made up for my silence. It wasn't even my grocery cart, I wasn't pushing it. It was just some random, lonely cart in the middle of the parking lot. It was the only one not in its place. I just happened to slip right beside it and crash into it.
Oh well, PRAISE GOD because my chem lab worked!

IT"S ALMOST READING WEEK!!!
One midterm down, one more to go, and a pile of assignments. I think this has been the busiest week of the semester so far, teachers are trying to get a bunch off stuff in before reading break. My reading week begins as of 1:30pm on friday. I can't wait, I need the break so bad so I can catch up, maybe even get ahead in some of my classes. Mostly I am looking forward to not having to wake up to the sound of my alarm clock, having time to do my dishes and a chance to catch up with friends. Friday I am heading to Caronport to catch up with some bible school friends. I can't wait, I miss them so much. Then I am off to my aunts for a couple of days to relax and visit. Then by about Wednesday it will be time to get back to the books. I wish I didn't have to but this is the result of the choices I make. That's alright, I have some ideas to make studying fun! I'm gonna try and develop a board game to learn the reactions of cellular metabolic functions. I know it's nerdy, but you wouldn't expect anything less from me! And don't act like you don't want to play! Trying to make this stuff fun is the only way I can bring myself to study during the break. For now I have to study, if anybody understand the anti-viral immuneresponse I would love to know.

FLASH BACK
I burned my fingers pretty bad tonight on the stove. I was cooking supper in the oven, and was cleaning the kitchen a bit at the same time. I was wiping down the top of the stove, and lifted up the elements to clean under them. Ouch! My index, bird and ring finger all got toasted! The element wasn't even on but because the heat from the stove comes up through a pipe under that element it was super hot. Wish I would have known the construction of the oven beforehand. So now I have a rather sore set of fingers, the ones that I need to write with. Hopefully it heals quick because I have tests and assignments coming out the wazoo this week and need to be able to write quickly and pain free.
This incident brought back a childhood memory, one of those "not the brightest crayon box" memories. I forget how old I was, for the sake of my pride we will say I was really young and thus did not know any better. Although with the stories I share on blog I don't know why I am suddenly worried about looking foolish. The details are a little fuzzy, I think I was sitting on the counter. My mom had been cooking something on the stove and then had taken the pot and turned the burner off.
As any mother would, she warned me "Don't touch that, it's hot."
"This one?" I asked as I rested my hand on the burner to indicate what I inquiring about.
The screams and tears soon followed I am sure. I remember being left with a couple of blisters which were a copy of the rings on the element and had to have my whole hand bandaged.

THINGS I DISLIKE WITH INTENSITY
I was reading a friend of mine's blog the other day. She had a list of things she thought was beautiful. I decided that when I got home I would do the same. However after my chemstry lab, I am finding it far easier to make a list of things I dislike with intensity. So here goes...
- Analytical Chemistry
- Inorganic Chemistry
- Acid-base titrations
- The French (I can say this because I am French)
- Multiple choice exams that have 10 choices. They are only supposed have A, B, C, or D, even the occasional E is acceptable. J should never be an option.
- University staff that reply to program inquiries after the program application deadline has passed. (cough... Alberta cough cough)
- My laptop
- The Oilers
- Doing dishes
- Error Propagation Calculations
- Most vegetables
- The new Blogger
